Congratulations to Lewis winner of the
2013 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association is pleased to announce Bonnie Smith as the winner of the $750 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship for 2013. Bonnie resides in Omaha and will graduate from Omaha Northwest Magnet School in May 2013. She is a four year Honor Roll student who has served as Vice President of the Student Council for 2011-2013, President of the Math Club for 2011-2013 and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Bonnie has been active in track and field, earning her academic letter for three of four years during her high school career, and was named Female Athlete of the Year for 2011-2012. She is active in her church as a volunteer, has volunteered with the Salvation Army as a bell ringer and participates in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Bonnie ranks #2 in her graduating class of 280 students with a current GPA of 4.57 (on a 4.0 scale) and scored a perfect 36 on the ACT test. Bonnie will study architecture at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she plans to earn her bachelor’s degree and then pursue her master’s degree. Her interest in architecture was only intensified after she completed a mission trip to Trinidad and Tobago her sophomore year. Ultimately, she would like travel to underprivileged areas to design houses. Please join us in congratulating Bonnie Smith.

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association awards this scholarship each year to a graduating Nebraska high school senior. The scholarship fund was started in honor of the late Ray Warren and Tom Forst, both with strong ties to the Elkhorn, NE area, AQHA and Nebraska Quarter Horse Association. Both Ray and Tom passed away in 1991, and were also close friends with one another. The Nebraska Roping Horse Association holds a memorial team roping jackpot each fall, with proceeds from the roping going directly to fund the scholarship. The Nebraska Roping Horse Association gladly accepts donations in any amount at any time throughout the year. All donations go directly to help fund this scholarship.

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association encourages all youth who will be high school seniors graduating in the year 2014 to apply for this scholarship next year. Just because the Nebraska Roping Horse Association awards the scholarship, does not mean that applicants must be ropers! Any youth with any background in 4-H, farming, ranching, showing, rodeo, or agriculture in general, will meet the application criteria. The application can be found on this website after September 15, 2013, or at Educationquest.org. You can also obtain a copy of the application form by contacting lklemon@q.com or calling 402-332-2834. The deadline for submission next year is February 28, 2013.

Congratulations to Shelby Garland winner of the
2012 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association is pleased to announce Shelby Garland as the winner of the $750 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship for 2012. Shelby comes from a farming family in Ohiowa, NE and will graduate from Bruning-Davenport High School in May 2012. She has held the office of President of the National Honor Society since 2011, and is active in: volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, drama and speech. She is described as a positive leader who is also active in her church and community. Shelby plans to attend Hastings College and study pre-veterinary medicine. Her ultimate plans are to complete veterinary school and practice in a rural community.

2011-Congratulations to Robert Kirkland!

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association is pleased to announce Robert Kirkland as the winner of the $750 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship for 2011. Robert resides in Garland, NE and will graduate from Seward High School in May 2011. He was chosen from an elite group of 21 applicants with a mean grade point average of 3.94 and a mean ACT score of 30. His award winning essay combined with high academic achievement, strong letters of recommendation, extensive community involvement along with his involvement in the agricultural and equine industries, made him the choice for this year’s scholarship. Robert plans to attend the University ofNebraska at Kearney where he has been accepted into the Honers program. He will study Biology with an emphasis in Pre-medicine. Robert's ultimate plans are to complete medical school and practice medicine in a rural community in Nebraska.

2010-Congratulations to Luke Wilson!

The Nebraska Roping Horse Association is pleased to announce Luke Wilson as the winner of the $750 Ray Warren/Tom Forst Memorial Scholarship for 2010.  Luke, who resides in Harrison, NE, is a recent graduate of Sioux County High School.   He was chosen from an elite group of 18 applicants with a mean grade point average of 3.96 and a mean ACT score of 30.  His award winning essay combined with high academic achievement, strong letters of recommendation, extensive community involvement along with his involvement in the agricultural industry, made him the choice for this year's scholarship.   Luke plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in the fall of 2010, where he will begin a course of study in mechanical engineering.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


The NRHA awards a scholarship each year to a graduating Nebraska high school senior.  The scholarship fund was started in honor of the late Ray Warren and Tom Forst, both with strong ties to the Elkhorn, Nebraska area, AQHA and the Nebraska Quarter Horse Assoc.  Both Ray and Tom passed away in 1991 and were close friends.  The NRHA holds a memorial team roping jackpot each fall. Proceeds from the roping go to fund the scholarship.  NRHA will gladly accept donations in any amount at any time throughout the year with 100% of donations going directly to fund the scholarship.
